HISTORY
To the best of our knowledge C1squirting followed shortly after Jim Snyder started the whole concept of low volume boats.
At the Rodeo world championships held on the River Ocoee in 1993 some C1 squirts were represented in the overall combined squirt class. They can be seen in the UK version of the event video footage. Were you one of these paddlers or do you know who they were? Let us know
These paddlers appeared to be using the Acrobats (not Pyranha) as these were probably the only commercially available boats at the time.
In 1996/1997 two new boats burst onto the scene, these were the Massive Groove and the then Valley Meltdown (now Downtime). After a few years interruption C1 squirts were back on the event list of a major competition, 1997 Ottawa Rodeo World Champs. There were only four competitors and unfortunately this was insufficient to form the basis of an official class but there was a single class demo event featuring the following paddlers:
1999 was the year of the World Championships on the awesome Full James wave in New Zealand. C1 squirt was badly attended and in the end there was a lone C1 squirt attendee in the form of Ian Thompson in his Groove. He battled it out with the rest of the squirts in a combined class. I think that the main reason for this was the fact that the costs to get to New Zealand were fairly high and so people were put off.
Now it's 2001 and the worlds are looming close once again, this time being held in Sort, Spain. Will we have and event? Only time will tell but we are making it our mission to try!
